Kostas is a policeman who carries the dead to the morgue. He is divorced with a child and a mother in a nursing home. His financial situation is not so good so he often steals gold from the dead. Andri, his ex-wife, works as a cleaner but still has financial difficulties since Kostas cannot always pay the whole amount of the alimony they agreed on. At the same time, Kostas maintains a relationship with Elena, a girl who lives with her mother. One day, Kostas and his colleague Andreas are called to transport an elderly woman who happens to be Elena's grandmother. Kostas steals a cross from the woman and hides it along with other stolen jewellery in a biscuit box that he keeps in a kitchen cupboard. A few days later, when Elena spends the night at Kostas’ apartment, she discovers the cross and things get complicated.
